This two-day course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and core competencies to function in their role as a health and safety representative. By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Explain the role of a workplace health and safety representative.
- Understand and describe the impact of workplace injury and illness on the company, injured person and their family.
- Demonstrate how to implement and monitor a company health and safety system.
- Explain why and how a hazard notice is issued and who needs to be notified.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of the Health and Safety in Employment Act.
- Discuss the principle of good faith cooperation in health and safety.
- Discuss the requirements of an employee participation system.
- Explain the duties of the employers and employees in hazard management.
- Explain the role of OSH in workplace health and safety.
- Discuss the role of the health and safety representative in hazard identification and management.
- Demonstrate an understanding of their role in the training and induction of staff and how to initiate a health and safety action plan.
