2009/10 Grants

The NZ Industrial Relations Foundation (Inc) is an educational trust whose overall purpose is the promotion by education of better industrial relations within New Zealand.

Applications are invited for the 2009/10 round of grants. The Foundation has a particular role in bringing an international perspective to New Zealand’s employment relations. Successful projects have typically involved research overseas or bringing speakers to New Zealand. Applications should not duplicate existing work. The Foundation is especially interested in applications relating to (but not limited to) any of the following themes:

  • Youth labour market outcomes, youth employment, access to representation and knowledge of rights
  • Management and leadership capability including employers and union leaders
  • Governance responsibilities & management capabilities in voluntary social sector organisations
  • Sector/industry approaches to employment rights and standards
  • Worker participation, voice and models of association

About the Foundation

The Foundation was established in 1977 and has provided funding which has facilitated the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge and expertise within the New Zealand industrial relations community. It is envisaged that each grant will be up to a maximum of $10,000 in 2009/10.

The Foundation is administered by five Trustees. They are the Minister of Labour (Chairperson), the President and Chief Executive of Business New Zealand and the President and Secretary of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. Trustees are advised by a Steering Committee consisting of the Secretary of Labour or his nominee, the Chief Executive of Business New Zealand and the Secretary of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. Servicing for the Foundation is provided by the Department of Labour.
